Kraken and Sprite Cocktail Recipe

Kraken and Sprite is the perfect combination! This refreshing drink takes 1 minute to mix together.

I LOVE Sprite.  I wanted to make a cocktail with it–and since I had a some Kraken rum it made sense to combine the two!

I actually use diet Sprite–but use regular or zero if you like.

I used original Kraken Black Spiced Rum, but Gold will do! Grab your bottle and let’s get mixing.

The best rum for Kraken and Sprite

You can use any type of Kraken rum when you make Kraken and Sprite. You’ll get a different drink with each variety!

Here’s how the flavors change the drink, listed in order of my preference:

  • Kraken Black Spiced Rum is the best option. Infused with the darkness of the depths, the original 94-proof Kraken Rum has an intense depth in flavor with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg–and a lingering spicy finish.
  • Gold also works! 70-proof Dominican Gold Spiced Rum has notes of molasses & dark spice fading into caramelized sugar. It finishes smooth with hints of of toasted oak & Tahitian vanilla.
  • Kraken Black Label Rum is tasty as well. It has a smooth, clean, and bold flavor with notes of vanilla, ginger, and peppercorns. It also makes a very tasty Kraken and Sprite.

When to serve a Kraken and Sprite

This cocktail is great for impromptu parties, or simply sipping after work. Try it as a:

How to make a Kraken and Sprite

These are the ingredients you’ll need to make this easy Kraken and Sprite cocktail recipe:

Ingredients

  • Kraken Rum: Of course, you’ll need Kraken!
  • Sprite: Regular, diet, or Sprite zero all work well. I’m watching my figure, so I used diet Sprite.
  • Ice: Kraken and Sprite is served over plenty of ice.
  • Garnishes: Garnish your drink with a lime wedge (or two, like I do).

If you don’t have lime, it will still be delicious.

Add a boost of lime to step it up

As you may already know: rum and lime are soulmates. I give this drink a zesty boost in 2 ways in this drink:

  • Add ½ ounce or 1 tablespoon lime juice. This gives it a more forward lime flavor. I LOVE lime, so I typically add up to 1 ½ tablespoons.
  • Use extra lime wedges. I’m a big fan of lime and typically add the juice of two lime wedges–for extra citrus flavor here.

Kraken and Sprite is served cold

The key to a good Kraken and Sprite is to serve it really cold. There are a few things I do to accomplish that, but it starts with storing your Kraken rum in the freezer. Rum won’t freeze, and will be perfectly chilled for your drink.

Other ways I make my cocktail very cold:

  • I mix the cold ingredients with ice cubes. This will dilute the drink slightly as the ice melts in the glass, but will keep it cool.
  • I serve my Kraken and Sprite cocktail in a chilled glass. More on this ahead.

Chilling your glass quickly

I fill my glass with ice and cold water for a minute–while I gather ingredients and mix the cocktail–will chill my glass fast! I toss out the ice and water before mixing.

Rum and Sprite variations

You can make a “blank and Sprite” with almost any spirit! I use the same ratio in most cases.

Kraken and Sprite FAQs

What if I don’t have any Sprite?

If you’re all out of Sprite, there are several soda substitutions, including:

  • Sierra Mist
  • 7-Up
  • Fresca
  • Ginger Ale
  • Mountain Dew
  • Store brand lemon lime soda
  • Squirt
  • Or lemon/lime seltzer water–just stir in simple syrup!

You can also use a lemon or lime seltzer water–you can stir in some simple syrup! Pineapple juice and Coke also work with spiced rum.

What is Kraken Rum?

Kraken is a Caribbean black spiced rum, named after a giant squid-like sea monster of myth and legend. Kraken is blended with 11 spices, including cinnamon, ginger and clove. It has a black color, and the bottle has two hoop handles based on the tradition of hanging a bottle to prevent breakage.

Kraken vs Captain Morgan–What’s the Difference?

Kraken rum has strong caramel and molasses notes with a hint of spice. Captain Morgan rum leads with spice with undertones of vanilla and caramel. Cinnamon and cloves are the prominent spice in both.

What is Kraken and Sprite called?

There’s no official name for a Kraken and Sprite cocktail. It is typically referred to as a Rum and Sprite. I like to jokingly call it a ‘Sea Squirt’ (this is a reference to squirting black squid ink and squirting limes).
