1. Sugar Pie (Tarte au Sucre)

Turns out I’ve been pronouncing ‘Tarte au Sucre’ name wrong all these years. *facepalm* Tarte au sucre is a quintessential Canadian pie celebrating traditional Quebec cuisine. I recommend baking it the morning you plan on serving it.

2. Tourtière (French Canadian Meat Pie)

I love a good meat pie! This traditional French-Canadian meat pie is served on Christmas Eve. It typically consists of ground pork, beef, or veal, mixed with onions, garlic, and spices such as cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

3. Saskatoon Berry Pie

I can’t pass up a fruit pie! Saskatoon berries are known as serviceberries in America and are similar to blueberries.

4. Pâté Chinois (Quebec Style Shepherd’s Pie )

I love hearing French Canadians pronounce Pâté Chinois. Cooks for the Chinese railway in the 19th century invented this dish as an economical variation of Shephard’s Pie to feed all the workers.

5. Wild Blueberry Pie

Canadian Wild Blueberry Pie is perfect with pinch of both ground cinnamon and nutmeg–I know you’ll love it! I think you can substitute Saskatoon berries, as well.

6. Rappie Pie

Rappie Pie or râpure (French), is a traditional Acadian pie. The Acadian regions of Canada, include Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. I love that this dish is served at Christmas and, similar to Desperation Pies in America, became popular during hard times.

7. Salmon Pie

Salmon Pie, like other ‘meat pies’ is a traditional Christmas dish. It’s a variation of the classic French-Canadian Tourtière (meat pie). It is typically made with salmon, mashed potatoes, onions, black pepper, thyme, and parsley. Some recipes include eggs and cream.

8. Bakeapple Pie

I do believe I will be trying Bakeapple Pie this holiday. It’s a Canadian pie made with bakeapples (also known as cloudberries) which are native to Canada.

9. Flapper Pie

I mean, if you’re not Canadian, you probably haven’t heard of Flapper Pie. But it typically consists of a custard filling and meringue topping. You’re welcome!

10. Lamprey Pie

Lamprey Pie is a traditional dish from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This Canadian pie is made with lamprey eels mashed with potatoes and onions–baked inside a pastry crust. I’m guessing lamprey eels are an acquired taste?

11. Cipaille (Quebecois-Style Mixed Meat Pie)

Cipaille (also known as cipâte, six-pâtes, or sea pie) is a traditional savory pie from Quebec, Canada. The bone is a chimney that allows steam to escape during baking.

It features meats such as moose, hare, partridge, veal, pork, beef, or chicken, and sometimes includes fish or seafood.

12. Canadian Chicken Pot Pie

Chicken Pot Pie is a classic comfort food dish in Canada. It is typically made with cooked chicken, mixed vegetables such as peas, carrots, and potatoes, and a creamy sauce made with chicken broth, cream, and flour.

13. Seal Flipper Pie

Seal Flipper Pie is a traditional Newfoundland dish. It’s made with harp and seal flippers, which are cooked and mixed with vegetables such as onions and carrots, and baked inside a pastry crust.

14. Bumbleberry Pie

If you ask me, this sweet fruit pie sounds genius! Bumbleberry pie is popular in Canada and America. It’s typically made with berries such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries, and sometimes includes rhubarb or apples.

15. Canadian Pumpkin Pie

I am so thankful for our neighbors to the North. Pumpkin pie is a classic Thanksgiving dessert in Canada too. Canadian Pumpkin Pie is a made with a filling of pumpkin, sugar, and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg–just like American Pumpkin Pie!

16. Butter Tart Pie

I currently don’t live in Canada–but I think about every four years. This simple Butter Tart Pie is right up my alley with a pastry shell filled with butter, sugar, eggs, raisins. I’ve heard it taste better chilled. Easy as pie!

17. Frozen Nanaimo Pie

The Frozen Nanaimo Pie is a no-bake adaptation of the classic Nanaimo bar, featuring layers of graham cracker crumbs, sweetened shredded coconut, chopped walnuts, and a cocoa powder-based filling.

18. Maple Walnut Pie

Canadian Maple Walnut Pie is a cousin to pecan pie with even more flavor! It features a delicious pairing of maple & walnut. I can’t decide on pecan pie or maple walnut pie this year–I may have to make both!

19. Cherry Pie

Cherry pie is a classic dessert in Canada that is typically made with fresh cherries. I’d recommend fresh summer cherries. I don’t use frozen cherries as they hold too much water and will cause a watery pie.

20. Quebecois Maple Cream Pie

Quebec-style Maple Cream Pie uses real cream for an authentic slice of French Canada. I hope you give it a try–I know I will!

21. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

I’ve heard the flavor of is unparalleled. Rhubarb pie is a classic dessert in Canada, especially during the summer season when rhubarb is in season.

22. Apple Pie

I love that Canada has pies in common with America–due to sharing similar geography. Apple pie is a classic dessert in Canada too! Especially during the fall season when apples are in abundance.
