This list of “B” desserts is like a box of bon bons, you never know what you’re gonna get, but you know it’s gonna be brilliant!

How many desserts can you name that begin with the letter B? I’m sure you’re familiar with baked Alaska and biscotti. But how about black bun, butter cake, and banoffee pie?

The name “baked Alaska” was supposedly coined at Antoine’s, a restaurant in New Orleans, Louisiana to honor the acquisition by the United States of Alaska from the Russian Empire in 1867.

2. Brownies

Brownies are square or rectangular chocolate dessert bars. Brownies may be either fudgy or cakey, depending on their density. One legend about the creation of brownies is that of a prominent Chicago socialite whose husband owned the Palmer House Hotel. 

3. Boston Cream Pie

Boston Cream Pie is a dessert made with yellow butter cake, custard cream, and chocolate glaze. A Boston cream pie is a cake with a cream filling. The dessert acquired its name when cakes and pies were cooked in the same pans, and the words were used interchangeably.

4. Banana Split

Banana Split is an ice cream dessert made with chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream sandwiched between two banana halves — it’s drizzled with chocolate and strawberry syrup, sprinkled with nuts, and topped with whipped cream and cherries.

Bread Pudding is a bread-based dessert popular in many countries’ cuisines, made with stale bread and milk or cream, generally containing eggs, a form of fat such as oil, butter or suet, and depending on whether the pudding is sweet or savory, a variety of other ingredients.

Biscotti is a crispy cookie that’s perfect for dunking. They are twice-baked, oblong-shaped, dry, crunchy, and may be dipped in a drink, traditionally Vin Santo.

7. Banoffee Pie

Banoffee Pie is a classic English dessert that consists of a crumbly biscuit or pastry crust filled with a layer of toffee or dulce de leche, sliced fresh bananas, and a generous topping of whipped cream or meringue. The name “banoffee” is a combination of “banana” and “toffee.”

8. Black Forest Cake

Black Forest Cake, or Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte as it is called in German, is a traditional German multi-layered chocolate and cherry torte that was first created in the Black Forest region of Germany. It’s known for its chocolate sponge cake layers and whipped cream topped with tart cherries to give it a distinct sweet-tart flavor profile. Some recipes also include a splash of kirsch, a cherry liqueur, to enhance the flavor.

9. Blueberry Pie

Blueberry Pie is a fruit pie with a blueberry filling. Blueberry pie is readily made because it does not require pitting or peeling of fruit. It usually has a top and bottom crust. The top crust can be circular, but the pie can also have a crumble crust or no top crust.

10. Bundt Cake

Bundt Cake is a cake that is baked in a Bundt pan, shaping it into a distinctive doughnut shape. Typically speaking, bundt cakes are denser in texture without being overly gooey. Bundt pans were invented by Minnesota’s Nordic Ware company to recreate traditional kugelhopf—a dense, ring-shaped, German cake.

11. Bananas Foster
